I’m currently playing three Sundays a month in church and in a group called "Streat Beat". They're a new 5-piece outfit playing R&B, Funk, Jazz, Rock-n-Soul: tight arrangments, heavy groove, and collaborative. Additional information at http://www.myspace.com/dennisfrentzel.
Tri-Saxual, The Love We Left Behind, Zazz, and You Ain't Nothing were written and performed by Terry Toon (except for the drums).

One great song... two great bands/performances. If you prefer the second then we have similar interests.
I've spent years performing live with a metronome/drum machine... accompanying various rhythm tracks and such.
I've been playing drums for quite a few years. At 13 I was listening to my older brother's Bebop albums and stuff like Guy Warren's African Talking Drums. I never really tried to copy anyone's style... just picked up on various patterns and dynamics. My philosophy is: 1) Don't overplay, 2) keep good time, 3) propel and frame the music, 4) try to be tasteful, and 5) compliment the group.
I enjoy listening to musical drummers, like Bill Stewart, Brian Blade, and Victor Lewis. Most people know Bill Stewart for his jazz projects, but he's played for James Brown. Listen to his recordings with Maceo Parker and you'll hear some great funk drumming. I'm also listening to Rachelle Ferrell's "First Instrument". The interplay between her and the band is beautiful.
I own several sets of drums (Gretch, Pearl, and Simmons), recording equipment, drum mikes, drum machines, triggers, PA remnants, etc.
